Morgoroth
A downloadable game for Windows
"But the last in a succession of heroes
shall breach the Pit into which Morgoroth,
the Dark Hand of Dawn,
was long ago cast
and usher in
a new era."
A traditional roguelike CRPG I created for the 7DRL Challenge 2025.
FEATURES INCLUDE:
- Permadeath ;
- No save points, but two unlockable shortcuts to lower iteration time;
- Randomly-generated dungeon floors and contents;
- Hand-made sprites;
- Turn-based combat without menus;
- Streamlined control scheme for modern sensibilities but still using some letter keys for certain actions;
- NPC interactions and character arcs in the town of Wolfsburg which stands atop the Pit;
- Weapons, armors, shields, and spells to buy;
- Three possible endings based on player choice;
- Limited sound effects and no music - the old school way;
- A CRT (old TV) filter for full retro immersion (which can be turned off with a keystroke);
- Windowed and full-screen modes, also keystroke controlled;
- Lore connecting to my tabletop games The Dungeon and Grimspire;
- Secrets and nuances for the player to discover.
FOR FANS OF: Rogue, The Temple of Apshai, Angband, Sword of Fargoal, Ultima I-IV, retro games in general, and methodical gameplay.

Congratulations on creating your entry. Video of your game here:
Thanks for the review! I just want to point out a couple things that you might have missed:
- You can break down walls by interacting with them! It lowers your SP but that's sort of the trade-off to being able to shape the dungeon a little;
- I originally had a very traditional "arrows move, keys perform the [a]ction associated with their verb" control scheme, but maybe due to exhaustion or nerves I figured WASD to move would be more natural/comfortable (that's the last time I second guess my intuition);
- There are actually three endings, each depending on your title, and whether you become a "killer" or not. The gaunt man essentially presents a questline that opens one of them;
- As for your ending...you just made the wrong choice lol.
I greatly appreciate the time you took to play and review it. Thanks again. 7DRL was a great growing experience and I'm glad I did it.
